Book Review - Getting Loaded (Get Ready, Get Set, Get Rich)
"Make a Million While You’re still Young Enough to Enjoy It" by Peter Bielagus
I had the pleasure of listening to this young entrepreneur and writer speak at the last M2 Wealth Masters Int’l. Conference. He was energetic, humorous, wise for his years, and has a message for young adults (primarily college age) ….. HE speaks their "lingo". I purchased his book and after reading it this past weekend, I will be purchasing numerous others to give to the young adults in our lives for holiday gifts.
Like his speaking style, Peter discusses a variety of financial topics and breaks them down in simple language. Here are some general categories that he explains with examples that kids "will get":
- Goal setting and the importance of writing them down. Creating a financial plan and why, plus how to find a mentor to work with
- He provides a worksheet to track expenses. Suggesting to do this once and then describes in the balance of the section where to look for areas to conserve, how to save without feeling "pinched", and by doing so gives examples of what that money could be in 20, 30, or 40 years out
- Peter explains the importance of good credit. Also, how credit cards work and why to not leave balances on them.
- He reviews the types of insurances that should be a part of each persons plan. He gives specifics what to look for and why. He also discusses the necessity of a 3 month "safety fund", and how to build it up.
- Peter explains why renting is a "purchase" and not an "investment". He promotes saving and investing so a person can own a home sooner. He gets them thinking of the bigger picture and not just the short term gratification.
- He outlines what investment vehicles there are and the times when one might be better than another…. IRA’s, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, etc. (By the way, he makes this simple to understand)
- He then talks about protecting your assets
- He provides numerous resources to reference with websites and phone numbers. Very practical information
We need to start ensuring our youth are educated in the financial arena. Everyone sees where our economy is right now, the youth needs to understand the ramifications …. All the young adults in your life could benefit from this book.
Leave a comment with other books you think are educational
Until next time, J.

Thanks Janet.
I agree that the youth of today need to be taught good fundamental money and investment management.
Sometimes it’s hard to get them to slow down.
