Is Age an Obstacle to Success?

I hear that question from both ends of the spectrum. Those just embarking on a new career after college are thinking no-one is taking them seriously. Some believe not having years of experience is affecting their opportunities, as employers are questioning their abilities to perform. Even though in many cases they’re considered “affordable labor”, in today’s job market “experience” sometimes is critical.
Then there’s the other who are over 60 and either want to continue working or have to because of the current economy. Many are changing entire career paths because they’ve been downsized, or are burnt out on what they “used to do”, and “don’t have the energy anymore”.
