Survivalists or Preppers or Just Taking Responsibility?

December 29th, 2009 -- Posted in Misc Ranting | 1 Comment »

I came across a great article on Newsweek that had to do with the modern day “Survivalist“, and how there is a movement of people preparing to take responsibility for themselves.  No different than what we should be doing as a part of our own personal disaster recovery plan, but on a larger scale.  Not meaning they are building bunkers, but many are preparing to be self sufficient for long periods of time.

Newsweek says, “A decade later, “preppers” are what you might call survivalism’s Third Wave: regular people with jobs and homes whose are increasingly fearful about the future—their paranoia compounded by 24-hour cable news.”

Read the entire article here and be sure to watch the video as well.  I’d love to hear your comments.  Do you have emergency supplies and food at your house and in your car?

As background I used the Great Depression for my research, as this decade (1929-1940) served as a laboratory experiment for failed policies that should never be repeated.

Under Presidents Hoover and Roosevelt, the New Deal created government program after government program, each with the supposed intention of rescuing continue reading »
