12 Steps to Get Retirement-Ready
Liz Pulliam Weston had a great article on moneycentral.msn.com you may want to read in more detail if you are evaluating (or re-evaluating) your retirement plans, especially those of you in your 60’s.
Liz states some sobering facts about why retirement is different now, compared to when “our parents” were preparing for their golden years. Here’s a quick outline of the steps she comments on:
- Zero in on a retirement date
- Figure out where you are going to live
- Consider long-term care insurance
- Remember to include medical costs
- Deal with your debt
- Draw up a retirement budget
- Review your social security and pension options
- Check your withdrawal rate
- Consider an immediate annuity
- Stress test your plan
- Meet with a fee only financial planner
- Review your estate plans
Have you taken action to be sure you’re “on track” or has the last year of changes in housing, the stock market, and employment required you to modify your plans?
Until next time, J.

I am a *BIG* believer in saving up for retirement. I put alot towards my 401k and am pretty aggressive when it comes to investing it towards different places. Great list of tips, I haven’t even thought about a few of these.
