I Can Volunteer Because of My Home Based Business

August 28th, 2008 -- Posted in Carbon Copy Pro, Home Business Ideas, Retirement, Wealth Strategies | No Comments »

Having been self employed for the last 7-8 years has allowed me freedoms that I never had while working for someone else. I have been very blessed with the people in my life and the opportunities I’ve had (and still have!) I donate regularly to a couple of "favorite" charities, but the best feeling has been donating my "time".

My home based business provides me even more flexibility. (What’s the saying - now I choose which 12 hours of the day I want to work!) If you’ve read the "About Me" section on this site or my other sites, you might know that I drive for Meals on Wheels every week, and have been doing so for close to 2 years. My route consists of delivering 16 meals, and for the most part my "clients" have been the same people all along. The majority of them are elderly women whose husbands have passed away and they either don’t drive anymore or have no desire to shop and cook for one person.

They are full of stories and memories just waiting to be asked about. Many of their families live out of the area, and I might be the only person they see that day. A route that may take other drivers about an hour to do takes me easily double that, as I spend at 10-15 minutes talking with each of them. I’ve gotten to know a few of them pretty well, and my family teases me about bringing them home for Thanksgiving - which we host for 25+ people already!

I always look forward to Wednesdays, and being able to give back to our community. One of these days I plan to get more involved, but for now it feels good to contribute where and when I can.

I’d love to hear about any volunteer activities you might be involved in - pay it forward! :-)

Until next time, J.

Recap of the 10 Video Project

August 27th, 2008 -- Posted in Carbon Copy Pro, Home Business Ideas, Marketing Tips, Wealth Strategies | No Comments »

I’ve taken on a Personal Development project to create a short series of videos on frustrations and challenges, addressing why career changes are sought out and some challenges when they are made. A final video will recap the benefits of creating the first 10. These can be found on YouTube as well, if you’d like to subscribe.

Finally, here’s the recap video of what my experience was creating the first 10. …

Please leave a comment about what you’d like to hear about on future videos….. any specific training topics for example :-)

Until next time, J.

Recession Proof Your Income

August 22nd, 2008 -- Posted in Carbon Copy Pro, Home Business Ideas, Retirement, Wealth Strategies | No Comments »

Did you know that 1 in 8 households include a home business ? Did you know that even Fortune Magazine is saying, "Forget the paycheck; your W-2 days are over. It’s a 1099 world now."

While some keep watching CNN (Constantly Negative News ) others are making a great living working from home and recession proofing their income . The days of working in traditional jobs for numerous years only to be downsized because of outsourcing or economy issues are changing many of the populations’ mindset. We’re not as trusting as our parents generation, mainly because we’ve seen the rug pulled out from people too frequently.

Economist Paul Zane Pilzer says, "We’re in the midst of a boom in home-based businesses, and it shows no sign of slowing ."

Technology makes it easier to work from anywhere now. Combined with the desire for greater financial opportunities, a more balanced lifestyle and creating your own security - you may also want to consider joining the revolution !

Leave a comment about how you are recession proofing your income :-)

Until next time, J.

I Work From Home…. Yahoo!

August 21st, 2008 -- Posted in Carbon Copy Pro, Home Business Ideas, Retirement, Wealth Strategies | 2 Comments »

I work from home and count my blessings each day. It’s particularly helpful at times such as this morning when I woke up with a headache…. I didn’t have to call "my boss" and say I would be late. I was able to get up and start work after it went away. Which ties in with yesterdays post, and what resonated with me about the title…

  • One of my decisions to work from home was to eliminate a 1 1/2 hour commute each way
  • Another reason was to work from where, when and with whom I wanted (like minded individuals, not whiners)
  • Also, it is true that we can write our own paycheck (If you don’t put in the effort- you don’t get paid. But when you do, it can come back to you tenfold)
  • I have been able to "donate" one morning each week driving for Meals on Wheels, my way of beginning to give back to the community
  • During my life I have been divorced, widowed, and a single parent struggling to make ends meet. You might think because of that I’m driven for the money, but that’s not my "why". I am passionate about working with other women so they don’t have to "struggle" like I did. Through coaching and financial education products they are taught the difference between good and bad debt, and how to build for the future. Many start just wanting the education, then the supplemental income, and many are helping to teach others as well now.

You might say it’s a bit like "pay it forward"…… and one of the side benefits is that yes, the money part happens as well!

Leave a comment about why you like to work from home :-)

Until next time, J.
