I work from
home and count my blessings each day. It’s particularly helpful at times such as this morning when I woke up with a headache…. I didn’t have to call "my boss" and say I would be late. I was able to get up and start work after it went away. Which ties in with yesterdays post, and what resonated with me about the title…
- One of my decisions to work from home was to eliminate a 1 1/2 hour commute each way
- Another reason was to work from where, when and with whom I wanted (like minded individuals, not whiners)
- Also, it is true that we can write our own paycheck (If you don’t put in the effort- you don’t get paid. But when you do, it can come back to you tenfold)
- I have been able to "donate" one morning each week driving for Meals on Wheels, my way of beginning to give back to the community
- During my life I have been divorced, widowed, and a single parent struggling to make ends meet. You might think because of that I’m driven for the money, but that’s not my "why". I am passionate about working with other women so they don’t have to "struggle" like I did. Through coaching and financial education products they are taught the difference between good and bad debt, and how to build for the future. Many start just wanting the education, then the supplemental income, and many are helping to teach others as well now.
You might say it’s a bit like "pay it forward"…… and one of the side benefits is that yes, the money part happens as well!

What part of that title got your attention?
Fire your boss because you want to enjoy the freedom of not having to commute?
Because you want to choose when you work, where you work and with whom you work?
Because you don’t have that confident feeling your current "job" will withstand the changes in the economy?
Because you want to determine how much your paycheck will be?
Or was it the other part of the title - making 6 figures? What would you do if you were able to achieve that working from home? Would you become debt free and help other family members get on their feet? Would this allow you time (and resources) to give back to the community and donate your time? Is there anything bigger than YOU that you’d like to participate in, anything you are passionate about?

- 21% want to have a more flexible schedule
- 15% want to spend more time with family

The Great Migration
Across the country and around the world, legions of people are abandoning their dependence on big business and seeking independence through their own enterprises. Every month, about 1 million Americans go through some type of job change or loss, and increasingly they are deciding to start their own businesses.
Security, which may come as a surprise, is a big reason behind the move. Only a generation or two ago, going into business for yourself was considered risky, and the safest route was to get a good job in a large firm. Back in the 1960s and ’70s, companies like IBM made “employment for life” the gold standard of job security.
A Better Lifestyle
One of the biggest reasons for the self-owned business boom is that people love the benefits of working for themselves and enjoy the freedom they gain from designing their own prosperity . No more commute and no more boss. You get to choose when you work, how you work and with whom you work. Best of all, you don’t have to make the agonizing choice between time for family and time for business.
Greater Financial Opportunity
The masses making this migration also have a clear eye on the bottom line: There is far greater opportunity to make money by building your own business than by working for someone else’s. There was an implicit trade-off in the old 40-year plan: Working for a firm typically meant there was a fixed ceiling to the wages one might earn, but the benefits and job security were worth it. Now that the benefits and job security (half of the equation) are evaporating, millions are asking, why settle for that arbitrary income ceiling?
A Life of Greater Impact
The nation’s 78 million baby boomers are just starting to reach retirement age, yet they’re realizing that they can’t afford to retire. What’s more, they don’t want to.
Taking the Plunge
“Leaving the rat race is not as daunting as it may seem ,” says author Dan Clements in his guide to worklife balance, Escape 101. “You’ll look back in later years and marvel at how easy it was and how much you gained for so little cost.”

Do any of the above sound familiar? Of course they do!
I call this "ID Syndrome " - the disease of Internal Distraction . And unless you learn how to defeat this affliction, you won’t get anywhere at work or in life.
We all have personal thoughts like these while we are working. But there’s a big difference between how high achievers deal with them and how people who never do better than the status quo deal with them. You see, high achievers recognize that these thoughts are WANTS - not NEEDS - that should be dealt with outside of the working day.
