January seems to always be the month we tend to take a good look at our business and ourselves to set goals for the upcoming year. As with most of you, I too have been undertaking that endeavor. I also enjoy reading others tips and what types of actions they are finding to be helpful in being more productive.
Darren Hardy of Success is one individual I enjoy following. He has recently started what he calls a 12-step program for those of us who are qualified "workaholics". It’s not uncommon for this time of year to focus on goal setting and strategy implementation for the beginning of the next year. This article by Rich Schefren touches on the process of how to come up with those items. I was amused by his stating he has a list of 62 items to incorporate into his "New Year’s list. I too, have numerous things to accomplish so the key is at the end of his article…. be sure and schedule the items in. As with many "resolutions" there can be a tendency to come out of the shoot, full of enthusiasm, only to tucker out after a few months – so be realistic with your time and pace yourself. Example: I use the first few months to focus primarily on my business goals, and then add my "personal" goals during the second quarter….and continue to add thereafter.

When I say "These" I mean the 8 proven goal setting steps . Goal setting is important to do in all areas of ones life such as family goals, spiritual, social, physical, educational, and financial. We’re going to be addressing business goals though and the impact they have. For those of you building a successful home based business this is even more critical as you are the main one responsible for your business being profitable .
You should begin by asking yourself "why" you want to achieve a particular goal as you create your list. If it’s something someone else thinks you should have as a goal, but you don’t, the likelihood of your following it through is slim. Your goals will become one of the drivers of your belief system , so make them real to you.
The key is to have reachable / achievable goals that will make you stretch. The objective of them are to keep you focused and on track. Large and small businesses alike use them.
