We have had a lot to celebrate in our household this past month. Our son graduated last month from Chico State , and our daughter graduated last weekend from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo . After a 4:30 AM wake-up call we attended the traditional "Dads & Grads" (Mom’s welcome too!) in the local bars at 6:00 AM ~ BEFORE the actual ceremony! I’ve got to tell you I have "closed" many a bar, but this was a first to "open" them. I thought we’d be the only parents crazy enough to go along, but was I wrong! There were lines out the doors and standing room only ~ 50% were parents ~ guess we were all pretty excited….
During the ceremony most of the speakers addressed how this is a very different time for these graduates to be looking for work. How they will need to get creative and be resourceful. How they will need to remain optimistic and positive, and to not take a "no" personally. There are numerous markets that are still growing, it’s just the competition is greater. The current state of the economy has caused many mixed reactions. Some people are very afraid to move and are stagnant, dwelling on days past when the economy was strong. Others are making necessary adjustments to live within their means and secure a safety net for their future. Then there are those who are eager to take hold of the opportunity presented to us by doing things they might not have had the courage to do, like start a home based business.
I cannot tell you how many times I’ve seen that Avon commercial encouraging you to call and get started with them because "you can’t get fired, you can’t get laid-off ", "it’s your own business ". Depending on your state at the time you’ve seen this commercial it may have peaked your interest or caused you to immediately change the channel. For me, it brings back memories of getting the Avon catalog in the mailbox or browsing through the latest issue at the hair salon. Growing up my childhood friend’s mom sold Avon and she’d have tons and tons of orders to deliver on the weekends. We’d go along for the ride. Fortunately, times have changed and sellers no longer have to hand deliver products to customers or even solicit customers on the phone. Foot traffic has now become online traffic as network marketers start to change how business is done.
