Setting up a home business office is slightly different than telecommuting for an employer. Many times employers will provide assistance with ensuring your equipment and "environment" are set up to be productive as well as ergonomically correct. As a small business owner you are now responsible for all of this. But before we discuss the placement of equipment, I’d like to point out a few other factors for your consideration while you embark on your new journey. Here are some of the "Pros" of working from home and some "atta boys" for you taking the plunge!

PROS

- As your home based business grows you can recruit talent from anywhere – they can work from home, too

- Working from home can provide more of a work/life balance because of reduced commuting time

- Statistics reflect a decrease in illnesses of approximately 2 days per year – less exposure to others who are ill

- Ability to accommodate emergency child care or elder care situations (if necessary)

- Statistics point to increased productivity due to limited work distractions, no commute, plus an increased motivation and commitment since it’s "your business"

- Because you have virtually no commute, you’re doing your part to save resources, and reduce pollution, not to mention saving money

- A home business opportunity allows mobility-impaired individuals the freedom to become successful entrepreneurs

- Baby Boomers who are wanting to have flexible schedules for hobbies and travel can still generate substantial income with the various opportunities available to them as a home business owner

- You may experience less stress due to the increased flexibility you have over your own work schedule

Come back again – next time we’ll review the "Cons" of Working At Home

Dreaming: I'm the Boss of Me

August 19th, 2008 -- Posted in Home Business Ideas, Retirement, Wealth Strategies | No Comments »

Lately I’ve been coming across many articles that cite statistics. Here are some more interesting ones from Success Magazine:

  • 72% of Americans dream of starting their own business
  • 57% of Americans are passionate enough about a hobby to turn it into a business
  • 40% Want to love what they do
  • 24% want to be their own boss
  • 21% want to have a more flexible schedule
  • 15% want to spend more time with family

Do you dream of being your own boss? Are you already? What did it take to motivate you to take the plunge? I’d love to hear from you… :-)

Until next time, J.
