Does Age Discrimination Worsen Within a Recession?

November 10th, 2008 -- Posted in Carbon Copy Pro, Home Business Ideas, Retirement, Wealth Strategies | No Comments »

"87% of Americans believe that women will experience age discrimination at some point in their lives"

"Women think age discrimination begins at age 43 for themselves and at age 47 for men"

According to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), age based complaints are up about 21% from 10 years ago. Elizabeth Grossman, an attorney with EEOC’s New York office says, "People are living longer and wanting to work longer. But quite a few employers resist keeping these employees on their payroll past a certain point." They also are saying that applicants over 50, continue reading »

Women In Business We've Come a Long Way With Much Further To Go

November 1st, 2008 -- Posted in Wealth Strategies | No Comments »

It terms of humans, in general, existing on the face of the planet, women in the work force are just like that… a tiny speck of time within a much larger scheme.

It wasn’t that long ago where women were expected to stay home, cook, clean, have children, and tend to the needs of others.

A quote from Wikipedia lends this statement more insight:

“The change in women in the labor force can be viewed over time as a shift from a state of evolutionary phases to a revolutionary phase. The evolutionary phase saw an entrance of women into the workforce, but typically only for temporary periods with the main focus being on the women’s home life. The revolutionary phase is characterized by a change in mindset in correspondence with a change in economics that enabled women to view careers as long-term options.” — Wikipedia.org

The modern day woman typically still feels those “cave man” days and the pressure of pulling off both a career and a home. However, with the advent of home business opportunities, women are now seeking greater freedom to explore, and exploit, their hidden potentials.

Consider this:

“While research has shown that women cultivate more than half the world’s food – in sub-Saharan Africa and the Caribbean, women are responsible for up to 80% of food production – most such work is family subsistence labor, and often the family property is legally owned by the men in the family.” — Wikipedia.org

While this is a global look at women, underneath it all don’t we sometimes feel that these attitudes still exist be they on the home front and/or the office? We work, we collect less than our efforts provide for others.

That’s why the internet, and a home business opportunity online, has such mass appeal – particularly for women!

Where else can you prove your worth, without a boss breathing down your neck? The challenges are ones women can create for themselves, and, like women universally everywhere, carry out and get the job done.

Here’s another striking fact I uncovered in my research. According to a Washingtonpost.com report, it was estimated that by the year 2006, 70% of the female population in the United States would be online. Over 106 million women, outnumbering men. In fact, when asked what they (women) would not give up, women (overall) made it abundantly clear they would keep their internet access.

In addition, women flock to the internet to “conduct more product research online than they would be able to offline.”

These statistics are evidence that more women are logging on; it is also great news for those seeking to supplement their incomes, and regain control of their lives. Here is an area where we can dominate and “plant and grow” our own self worth – with a tidy income to boot.

However, a word of caution. The careful, business savvy woman needs to rely on her innate common sense and “shop around” for the income producing opportunity best suited to her temperment and needs. Like their counterparts, women seeking to start a business online need to exercise caution. With our long, long history of holding our families and friends together, investing our time wisely, and gaining the maximum benefits of that time, should always be our top priority.

The Bad Credit Hotel – An Interactive Game

October 16th, 2008 -- Posted in Misc Ranting, Retirement, Wealth Strategies | No Comments »

The Department of Treasury and the Ad Council has recently created a campaign targeted to 18-24 year olds, to introduce them to "debt management and credit ". They’ve developed an interactive game by the name of "The Bad Credit Hotel ". I played it last night and there is some good information provided. The fact that it is interactive makes it more interesting; particularly for the age group they’re trying to reach.

A statement they sent to me said, "According to a study conducted by Sallie Mae, more than 50 percent of college students accumulate more than $5,000 in credit card debt while in school. Additionally, Capital One reported that only 10 percent of high schools in America teach financial management and continue reading »
